WHAT TO BRING

What to Bring to the Hand’s On Retreat

Everybody please bring the following if you can:

  • Personal Safety Equipment: Face shields will be mandatory.
  • Chuck to fit a mini lathe (1”x8 tpi) (more than one if you have them); 2” jaws should suffice but bring what you can.
  • Drive Spur
  • Live Center
  • Basic turning tools: (spindle gouge, roughing gouge, bowl gouge, skew, and parting tool at the very least. Of course, bring your favorite tools.). The individual class listing will note any special tools needed.
  • Please also bring any dust protection and be sure to wear close toed shoes.

Note: If you don’t have all of the above, just let us know. Also, if you have extras, and are willing to share them, please bring them. We will have a Tool Library where you can check in your extra tools and someone else will be able to check them out. There will also be vendors selling tools. Be prepared to be tempted.

Some classes will be using specific tools. When signing up for individual classes, will list any special needs. Some classes will be providing the specialty tools needed (i.e hollowing jig, sphere jig, hook tools to name a few).

Some things we need!

  • Power Carvers - If you have a power carving machine (flex shaft, micro carver, air turbine carver) that you are willing to share please bring it along with a few bits and burs for folks to try out at the off-lathe area.
  • Wood Burners - We could use several wood burners for the pyrography off lathe area
  • Grinders - we could always use a few more grinder setups.
  • Extra chucks and tools – if you have some of these you are willing share please bring them for others to borrow.

ALL TOOLS NEED TO BE CLEARLY LABELED WITH YOUR NAME OR SOME OTHER IDENTIFYING MARK.

If you are Bringing a Lathe to the Retreat

This Hands on Retreat is only possible if enough people bring a lathe to share. Thank you for being willing to share. With individual support along with the area clubs support we will have enough lathes for this retreat.

Please be sure that your lathe is working properly and has necessary tail stock that moves freely and tool rest, knock out bar and that each part of your lathe is clearly labeled with your name or mark. If you have a light on your lathe, it would be nice if you brought that as well. There will be a lathe inspection upon arrival and upon departure. We will do all we can to ensure that you get your tools back in as good or better shape than when you brought them.

Some time prior to the event you will be getting a call from a member of one of the area club members on behalf of Trinity River Woodturners Council. This will be the Lathe Organizing Team in charge of keeping track of all machines, inspecting them and making sure we have enough stands or tables for the lathes.

ALL LATHES NEED TO BE CLEARLY LABELED WITH YOUR NAME OR SOME OTHER IDENTIFYING MARK.
